Violin
Rebecca Cherry has had a varied and exciting beginning to her career. She grew up in a musical family who encouraged her talents, starting the violin at the age of 4. Rebecca nurtured her love of classical, jazz, rock and ethnic music throughout her childhood and teenage years singing, playing several instruments, and now writes her own music. She has gone on to have the beginnings of a major career as a violinist and multitalented musician changing the face of the "modern violinist" with her new solo, and group projects. Rebecca recently finished her first classical CD Remembrances released in Feburary 2005, performing works from Burch, Rachmoninov, Bloch, Barber, Achron, Faure, Sinding and John Williams.
Rebecca started playing with bands during her years at music Conservatory, recognizing that her love for jazz and rock music could be utilized on the violin without giving up her passion for classical music. She has recorded live performances with many well known groups in Europe, including Sondre Lerche, Ephemera, members of Jaga Jazzist, and Thomas Dibdal. She has also performed on the Conan O'Brien show with the band Lambchop. Rebecca is sought after as a Leader and Concertmaster throughout North America and Europe, performing with many Orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic, the Oslo Chamber Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, the Vancouver Symphony, and the New York Chamber Orchestra. In New York, Rebecca performs regularly with many chamber groups and ensembles playing violin and electric violin. Rebecca joined Stretto in the winter of 2006, as well as Newspeak, a social/political avant garde group, in the fall of 2005. She performs regularly with David Soldier's Spinoza's, and plays with rock band The Nineteen Hundreds as a full time band member, and plays regularly with Katie and the Instruments and The Gwens, a band with long time friend and violinist Katie Pawluk. Rebecca additionally is continuing to work and develop her own sound and style with her compositions, video, and sound installations.
